What Determines the Weight of Wood?
The weight of a piece of wood mainly depends on two things: how much space it occupies and how dense the wood is.
For example, two boards with exactly the same dimensions can have different weights if they are made from different types of wood. A denser hardwood contains more mass in the same amount of space, so it will normally weigh more than a lighter softwood.
This is why the calculator asks you to select a wood type before calculating the result.

How to Use the Wood Weight Calculator

How the Weight Is Calculated
The calculation starts with the volume of the wood:
Volume = Thickness × Width × Length
Because the measurements are entered in inches, the calculator converts cubic inches into cubic centimeters.
It then uses the selected density to estimate the mass:
Weight = Volume × Wood Density
Finally, the result is converted into pounds so you can see the estimated weight in both common units.

Softwood with a density of 0.60 g/cm³
First, the calculator finds the volume from the three dimensions. It then converts that volume to cubic centimeters and applies the softwood density.
